About Puddles & Play
Last updated
Maybe it's raining again. Maybe it's 4:30, dinner isn't started and everyone is melting down. Maybe you've got a room full of preschoolers and a lesson plan that just fell apart.
Puddles & Play is for exactly those moments. We share screen-free activities, crafts and printables for kids ages 1 to 8, with the boring-but-important details listed up front, every single time.
Every activity tells you
- Prep time: an honest number, including the hunt for the tape.
- Ages: a starting point, not a rule. You know your kid.
- Mess level: 1 means wipe the table, 2 means grab a towel, 3 means take it outside or into the bath.
- Supplies: mostly things already in your kitchen drawer or recycling bin. We flag anything you'd need to buy.
- Safety notes: choking hazards, supervision, allergies and anything else you should know before you start.

- Teachers and childcare providers who need a quick, cheap activity for a whole group

How we make activity posts
Activity ideas come from research: established play and early learning ideas, early childhood resources such as the CDC's developmental milestones and the American Academy of Pediatrics' HealthyChildren.org, and safety guidance from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Our editor checks every activity for age suitability, supplies and safety before it's published.
Here's the honest part: unless a post says otherwise, we haven't run every activity ourselves. Instructions are written from research and widely used play ideas, then reviewed by a person. Toy, book and craft supply picks are based on product listings, age labels, specs and reviews, not hands-on testing, unless the post tells you we've used the item.
AI tools help us research, draft and create images. A human editor reviews and edits every article before it goes live. Our pictures are AI-generated illustrations and overhead activity scenes showing hands, supplies and finished crafts. We never create realistic AI images of children's faces. Read the details in our AI policy and editorial guidelines.
Safety first, every time
Every activity on Puddles & Play is meant for adult-supervised play. Small parts, water, food allergies and art supplies all come with notes, and some things, like water beads, never appear here at all. Our play safety notes explain why, in plain words.
Our promise to you
Before anything is published, a person checks it: ages, supplies, steps and safety notes. Printables are checked for spelling, counting and letter mistakes. The "Reviewed by" line shows who signed off. When guidance changes or a supply gets hard to find, we update the post and the date. And if a post has affiliate links, or ever has a sponsor, it's labeled. See our disclosure for the details.
Meet the founder
Rowan Avery, Founder & Editor
Rowan Avery is the pen name of the independent publisher who founded Puddles & Play. Rowan isn't a teacher or childcare professional, so each activity is checked for age range, supplies and choking hazards against published child-safety guidance, with AI tools helping on research, drafts and images. Every activity is meant for adult-supervised play.
Rowan runs Puddles & Play independently, alongside four sister sites. Puddles & Play isn't owned by a toy company or craft brand.
